Sin City Releases Pay-Per-Minute Model

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Sin City, distributor of Sin City, Mayhem XXX and Skeeter Kerkove’s films, is debuting a pay-per-minute video-on-demand option with an introductory incentive.

Surfers can visit SinCity.com and get the first 20 minutes of streaming video free, said Sin City’s Vinnie. In addition to the introductory offer, the PPM plan allows customers to "view scenes from their favorite Sin City and Mayhem titles, without waiting to download, for as little as eight cents per minute," he said.

The pay-per-minute model is gradually being road-tested throughout the industry as companies experiment with parceling out content to viewers who might not want or need full movies.

Sin City’s clips are offered at 500kbps streaming and users can switch between scenes at will. Vinnie remarked that if content could be had for less money, it was probably stolen.

Sin City has recently announced that it is going to increase production of its hardcore and gonzo series, as well as update its website, which includes galleries from movies like the “Barely 18” line, “Stalker,” “Sorority Life” and“Assylum.”

The company does release softer features, such as Francois Clousot’s “Beautiful Lies,” but the majority of its content is solidly in the hardcore/gonzo categories.
